In a Home Stay situation, you will be offered accommodation with a local Ukrainian family who speak Russian in their day to day life. As well as all the comforts of home, you’ll be able to practice your Russian around the home with people who speak it as their primary language, and immerse yourself totally in the local culture in Kiev. We will match you up with a host family who understand your needs and will be open to helping you as much as possible with learning the language!
Things to know:
- The host families vary in size and composition. You may be placed in a family with young children, or hosted by a young adult looking for company. Students often find this an enriching experience and keep in contact with their host families – even forming close friendships and going out on the town with them!
- We can make arrangements for you to share your meals with the local family. You can choose from a room with just breakfast, a room with half-board (breakfast and one cooked meal a day), or full-board, where all your meals will be provided.
- Because you become one of the family, you will eat at the same time as the family and eat the same foods, often local dishes, although the family will take into account your likes and dislikes as much as possible.
- You will have your own house keys, so you can come and go between your host family’s house and your lessons, or any local entertainments you want to attend. While the family will probably not allow you to make international calls using their landline, you can use their phone to receive calls from home or from other students.
